  • Note that the Irongate Realtors site has much useful information about the Dayton Ohio area. Just follow their "the miami valley" link.

The Dayton / Miami Valley area includes Dayton, Oakwood, Kettering, Centerville, Bellbrook, Miamisburg, West Carrollton, Moraine, Eaton, Trotwood, Englewood, Vandalia, Huber Heights, Fairborn, and Beavercreek. Kettering is the best suburb to live in because the housing prices are reasonable, the schools are good, taxes are average, it is centrally located, the police won't bug you unless you are causing trouble, and the city government and city workers actually do a good job. (Yeah, Kettering happens to be where I live.) The other good option is Washington Township which is just south of Kettering. Homes in Washington Township tend to be larger, on bigger lots, and of course more expensive. Nearby Oakwood is famous for the high quality of its schools, its overzealous police and zoning inspectors, and its high taxes. If you are rich you might prefer to live in Oakwood instead of Kettering. I'm not rich. The city of Dayton is famous for its high taxes, limited services, and below-average schools. Most of the other communities are somewhere in the middle. You can find official websites for most of these communities by searching GOOGLE.COM for the city name.
